The cycling is only part of the experience! You could also spend a full day out on the Great Barrier Reef and go for a ride on the Skyrail Rainforest Cableway up to Kuranda to explore this unique village before returning via the Kuranda Scenic Railway. You could also see crocodiles as we cruise up the Daintree River! We can also arrange meals to enjoy delicious food in some of the many cafes and restaurants in town.
Plus you have the option to arrange your own accommodation or we can also arrange this for you, providing you with a choice of 3, 4 or 5 star accommodation right in the heart of Cairns, resorts in Port Douglas & a rainforest retreat in Cape Tribulation.
This tour is limited to a maximum of 12 people so don’t miss out and secure your spot today!
Today’s ride : 3 pm departure | Post travel recovery ride of 38.4km / 23.9 miles – 280m / 919 feet
We will greet you at the airport and provide transport back to your chosen accommodation which we have booked for you or that you have arranged yourself. We will meet at 3pm to head out for a short spin to explore the outer areas of the city of Cairns. There is so much more to this city than just the Esplanade and free swimming lagoon!
You’ll then have the rest of the afternoon to explore Cairns before enjoying dinner at one of the many beautiful restaurants in town for those that choose the full tour package.
Today’s ride : 8am departure | 85.2km / 52.9 miles – 1,343m / 4,406 feet
A solid day awaits as we take in some of the most popular cycling routes for the locals. First we will enjoy the climb out to Copperlode Dam, followed by a rolling hill journey around to Crystal Cascades. Then it’s out to Barron Gorge before heading back to Cairns for lunch in town.
The afternoon is yours to explore.
Today’s ride : 8am departure | 90km / 55.9 miles – 466m / 1,529 feet
Today we will visit some of the most beautiful beaches in Tropical North Queensland! After riding north we will enjoy a coffee overlooking the palm trees and white sands at Palm Cove. We will then wind our way back to Cairns via all the northern beaches, each with a unique waterfront view. Trinity Beach has a very special place in Australia’s wartime history. You will see where the Australian troops practiced their WW2 D-Day landings right here in Australia.
Then, it’s back to Cairns to enjoy a free afternoon. For those that have selected the full tour package we have an exciting afternoon planned as we will then transport you out to the Cairns Skyrail Rainforest Cableway.
The iconic Skyrail experience is a must do Cairns attraction that provides a truly unique perspective of Australia’s World Heritage listed tropical rainforest – you will be immersed in the sights, sounds, smells and tranquility of one of the most botanically fascinating areas on earth. We will have lunch in Kuranda before jumping on the Kuranda Scenic Railway for the trip back down the range.
Today’s ride : 8am departure | 90.5km / 56.2 miles – 593m / 1,946 feet
After heading to the northern beaches yesterday, today we will head south, out to Second Beach, for a different view of the city of Cairns. We will take a left turn on the outskirts of the city and head into the cane fields. This beautiful country road winds it’s way through the cane fields as we make our way out to the coast. For those that are crazy enough, you can also climb the 2.4k climb at 20%, while the rest of the team waits at the base. Then we’ll ride back to Cairns to enjoy the rest of the afternoon resting by the pool or exploring the many other activities on offer in Cairns.
The legs might be feeling a little tired after 4 days on the bike so the full package riders will enjoy a short walk to another amazing restaurant for dinner.
OPTION 1: Great Barrier Reef – 7.15am departure
OPTION 2: Ride – 8am departure | 109km / 67.8 miles – 919m / 3,015 feet
For those taking up the full package you are in for a real treat today! Following 4 solid days on the bike you’ll be ready for a rest day. But this is like no rest day you’ve ever experienced! Today you will travel out to the Great Barrier Reef. Lunch is provided on the boat and you should arrive back at Cairns Marina around 4.30pm. The tour includes:
– 2 Outer Barrier Reef locations (chosen from a selection of 16 sites on a daily basis by the reef tour operator)
– Fresh, healthy and tasty buffet style lunch
– Morning & afternoon tea
– Quality masks, fins & booties
– Top quality scuba equipment & dive computers
– Lycra suits for all in the warmer months, 5mm ‘shortie’ wetsuits all year round

– Free guided snorkel tour
– Reef talk & presentation
– Introductory Diving – Optional Extra Trip + 2 Intro Dives (Cruise, Guide, Dive Equipment & Instruction) AU$125.00 per person
For those that haven’t selected the Great Barrier Reef option we will head south again, winding our way along the foothills. Once we reach the sugar refining town of Gordonvale we will make a right turn inland. The sign to Goldsborough will appear 5km’s down the road and this is where the magic really starts. This road takes us out to the Mulgrave River and the end of the sealed road. Keep an eye out for the wild horse who roam the area! You’ll also need to watch where you’re riding to avoid the cow poo! This is one of our favourite roads in the region so you are in for a great day on the bike.
Today’s ride : 7am departure
OPTION 1: 204km / 126.8 miles – 2000m / 6,561 feet
OPTION 2: 123km / 76.4 miles – 1,250m / 4,101 feet
The longest ride of the tour! Are you up to the challenge? We will offer two options today and you can choose which distance that you’d like to ride in the morning. The longer option will see you ride just over 200km’s and climb 2,000m or the shorter option where you can join the ride in Atherton and ride 123km and climb 1,250m.
We will head south from Cairns and then climb the famous Gillies Range Rd up and over to Atherton in the FNQ Tablelands. We then head north for Mareeba to enjoy a well earned lunch before dropping down to Port Douglas. A long day but you’ll enjoy every moment with amazing views from the top of the climbs and be rewarded with a beautiful resort in Port Douglas!
Full Tour Package guests will then enjoy dinner in the resort as we are sure you won’t want to be walking too far after such a big day on the bike.
Today’s ride : 8am departure | 104.6km / 65 miles – 874m / 2,867 feet
We will head out early today and ride mostly flat roads out to the beautiful little town of Daintree Village for morning tea, on the edge of the rainforest. Then, we ride back to the ferry crossing of the mighty Daintree River and begin the 2km climb at 8% gradient up to the Mount Alexandra Lookout. More amazing views!
Following the descent down the other side we will only have 25km’s to go before we reach Cape Tribulation, where the rainforest meets the reef. It’s time to go exploring the rainforest and walk along the sandy beaches of the cape.
Today’s ride : 8am departure
OPTION 1: 85.8km / 53.3 miles – 760m / 2,493 feet
OPTION 2: Rest Day (drive along the famous Captain Cook Hwy)
On our return to Port Douglas we will park our bikes after crossing the ferry and go cruising down the mighty Daintree River to spot crocodiles, snakes, beautiful birds and butterflies, frogs and many more indigenous Australian animals and also migratory one’s too. See the ferocious crocodiles cruising the river looking for an opportunity to pounce on prey, the Daintree River is alive with action. Then it’s back on the bikes for a short spin back to Port Douglas to enjoy a well earned lunch.
From here it is off to afternoon tea and to see beautiful Mossman Gorge to walk on the new elevated boardwalk to see the full majesty of this rainforest Gorge and learn about its history and its people. Whilst here enjoy a lovely afternoon tea at the visitors centre before returning to the resort in Port Douglas. Whilst at Mossman Gorge you can even take a dip in the refreshing mountains waters so if you feel like cooling off just make sure you bring a towel.
After another exciting day there will be plenty to talk about over another beautiful dinner at the resort.
Saturday
Today’s ride : 8am departure
OPTION 1: 3 1/2hr Mountain Bike Ride (Bike Hire Included)
OPTION 2: 111km / 69 miles – 440m / 1,443 feet
After breakfast we will transport you back to Cairns via the Captain Cook Hwy which hugs the coastline. Unfortunately this road is too dangerous to ride along with so many tourist buses and caravans but you’ll still have an opportunity to take in the views along the journey back to Cairns. We will also stop at Rex Lookout to take in the amazing views from the cliff top.
Once we arrive back at our hotel you will have a few choices for today’s activities. You could go exploring the 2017 UCI World Championship Mountain Bike course in Smithfield, Cairns, stick to the road bike and enjoy a 111k ride or simply take a day off the bike to enjoy laying by the pool or taking a stroll around Cairns.
The MTB adventure includes bike hire and we’ll guide you around the extensive mountain bike trails in Smithfield, where you’ll have green, blue and black trails to choose from.
The road riders will head south today and ride through the quiet roads surrounded by sugar cane. The only people to use these roads are the farmers who live there, so we are guaranteed to have very quiet roads, with few, if any cars once we reach the cane fields on the outside of town. We should enjoy a nice tailwind on the ride back to Cairns as the south-east winds will be blowing.
Then, it’s back to the hotel to relax around the pool before heading out for our final dinner to celebrate an amazing time in Far North Queensland.
It’s time to say farewell and head to the airport or perhaps get a few cheeky kilometres in the legs for those that are keen for an early spin before checking out.
We are more than happy to help you with any further travel plans.
You’ll head home with amazing memories of your time cycling around this beautiful region.

My cycling tour in Okinawa with Connect Sport was absolutely fantastic! This was my first time riding in Japan, and will not be my last. The routes were carefully chosen to showcase the island’s stunning natural beauty, from coastal views, lush forests and mountain passes. Each day with a mix of challenging riding. Bade and his team were incredibly knowledgeable and friendly, making the experience both enjoyable and educational. Connect Sport’s attention to detail and excellent service ensured a seamless and memorable adventure that I would highly recommend to any cycling enthusiast!
I recently had the pleasure of riding with Connect Sport in Okinawa Japan. From booking the tour to the day we waved each other goodbye Bade and his team were simply amazing.
Each day was well organised and such fun. The riding was a great mix of challenging hills and pacy casual riding. My bike played up mechanically a couple of times and Bade and Albert were so helpful and patient in getting me back in the saddle. The hotels were simply superb and we all loved the food. All in all I had a great time.
These guys really know Japan. Riding the back roads through amazing scenery with mostly hot mix to ride on. Some tougher climbs mixed with longer more gentle climbing was a perfect match. The food was fantastic with a few surprise tastes along the way. I got to experience the real Japan by bike.
The ‘Alps to the Coast’, Japan, bike tour, was an amazing experience. It was well planned, highly organised and very informative. The accommodation was excellent. I would recommend this bike tour to any keen riders out there.

Discover a distinct island culture born of subtropical sun, white sand, mangrove jungles and the age of the Ryukyu Kings on this 9 day/8 night cycling tour.
Japan’s southernmost prefecture, Okinawa is a chain of islands with its own history as an independent kingdom and a distinctly subtropical climate, as well as the birthplace of karate. The riding here is truly unique and different from mainland Japan, plus we will explore the ruins and restored castles of the Ryukyu kings, and visit magnificent beaches and coastlines with an amazing array of coral and undersea life.
