Mon 18 – Mon 25 May, 2020 | 8 Days 7 Nights
Traditional Japanese, Modern Japanese & Western Style.
Unfortunately, we have had to make the decision to cancel this tour given the current global threat from the CoronaVirus. We are still planning to run our September and October tours. Sorry for any inconvenience.
We designed the Women’s Japan Cycling Tour so that our riders can all enjoy a few more of the sights and surrounds and it is suited to those who probably don’t want to ride big distances and descend big mountains at crazy speeds. With this in mind, we’ve decided to provide the ladies with their own tour, as we understand it is challenging sometimes to find that balance with mixed groups.
Our first Women’s Japan Cycling Tour in 2018 was a huge success! The ladies had a fantastic time both on and off the bike. The off bike experiences include participation in a traditional green tea ceremony, taiko drumming experience, a guided tour of the Matsumoto Castle and much more.
The Women’s cycling tour will no doubt be a challenge, but what better than to share this amazing cycling experience with a group of friends who are just as passionate about cycling as you are.
Ride with us on this exclusive Japan cycling tour as we delve deep into the vibrant Japan culture and tackle some of the best, yet mostly undiscovered cycling in the world. After gathering in Matsumoto, we will travel deep into the Mountains surrounding this ancient and majestic region. The contrast will amaze, as will the next 7 days of cycling that lay head as we visit hot springs, visit ancient shrines and temples and taste delicious local produce.
With breathtaking scenery, challenging riding and plenty of off-bike experiences to enjoy as well, the stage is set for a uniquely rewarding cycling holiday – one you and your legs will remember for a long time to come.
“The Womens Specific Cycle tour in Japan was my highlight of 2018. I had wanted to do a cycling overseas tour, but had been daunted by all the faster, stronger people. I ride alot but I am not quick, and Iike to ride a hill, but am always last to finish. So it was such a pleasure to ride with the group of ‘like-abled’ women, with the support of Bade and Adam in Japan. No one was left behind, we learnt heaps about climbing and descending and we all felt we achieved alot in our cycling during the time we were away. I love experiencing Japanese culture – the food, the art and music are extraordinary. I felt Bade and Adam really went the extra mile to make sure we got to see Japan on and off the bike. I would go back in a heart beat.”
“We had the best time! The boys looked after us and our safety with the utmost care. We saw some unbelievable sights and shrines throughout the Japanese Alps. Staying in a traditional Japanese hotel at one point enjoying several visits to the onsen baths. We especially loved that we rode around where the local farmers were just out in the rice patty fields, business as usual. Some areas are so uninhabited by cyclists that we drew quite a bit of attention from the locals. The hills were amazing. The tour was jam packed between riding and sightseeing. On one occasion we had the opportunity to have a private group lesson playing the Japanese taiko drums it was such a hoot & such a highlight. I would thoroughly recommend Bade and Adam and their tours, nothing was too much trouble. Take on the challenge ladies you won’t regret it, it will wet your appetite to see more of Japan for sure!”

Welcome to Matsumoto, a cycling paradise in the heart of the Japan Alps. Matsumoto is our base for a few nights and with its mix of traditional and modern, it will be sure to deliver a lot of unique experiences, both on and off the bike. After arriving, briefing and logistics we will head out for a short ride to visit the castle and some other local sights before meeting for our first dinner.
30km & 150m
For our first ride, we head south along one of the many mountain rivers that populate the area. We will visit SkyPark and then take in some of the beautiful farming roads south of the city before a stop at Kutsuzawa Lake. The road back has a few hills to test the legs before we arrive back for lunch and a well deserved coffee and cake.
60km & 900m
Another great day as we explore the hills and small mountain roads to the north of Matsumoto. We climb gently out of the city, looking back to take in the superb views, before making our way to Akashina on the gently rolling rice field roads. Our first major climb takes us up to an amazing lookout, where we start to get feel of the size of the mountains. After our descent we head for Matsumoto with a few small hills to earn that coffee and cake.
40km & 800m
Today will be spend exploring the vineyards of Matsumoto. Japan is a developing wine producer and is now starting to make some good quality white and sweeter reds. We will stop and taste some the local offerings and spend the ride rolling through the tiny little roads perched on the side of the slopes. Think Alsace. We will then head up to Lake Mizuzuko for a look at the stunning mountain lake 1000m above sea level. A nice descent and we finish the ride with an onsen in Asama.
60km & 700m
A stunning 100km course that takes us on the beautiful roads of Azumino as we head for Hakuba, our next location on the tour. We will take our time and soak up the wonderful atmosphere along the road, before calling it a day in the ski resort town and as always a great coffee and muffin.
100km & 1,000m
Hakuba is famous for its winter activities and today we will explore the stunning valley. Home to the 1998 Winter Olympics, Hakuba has some infrastructure that is still in use and we will visit the mighty ski jumping venue. Our course takes us the the European styling of Cortina, before we make our journey back to our relaxing accommodation. Naturally, coffee and cake will be had.
50km & 800m
Our last day on the bike and today we say Sayonnara to Hakuba and head toward our final destination, Nagano. A great course through the hills today with a bit of climbing to keep the legs honest as we head up to the ancient temple of Togakushi. We finish with a great descent into Nagano and will finish the tour at Zenkoji Temple, a 1600year old Buddhist icon.
60km & 1,000m
Following our last breakfast together we will ensure you are all set to head off to your next destination, whether that be somewhere else in Japan or back to the airport. You will depart the tour with amazing memories that will last a lifetime.
