We will commence the tour in St Kilda, Melbourne, with a ride down Beach Road, one of the most popular cycling routes in Australia. You will have views across the water as we ride down to the Mornington Peninsula, arriving in the small seaside village of Portsea at the end of day one.

The next two days will showcase everything this region is famous for including wineries, busy bayside villages, rolling hills and stunning coastline. But, the highlight will be on day three when we visit the world famous Peninsula Hot Springs; winner at the World Luxury Spa Awards in 2014, 2016, 2017, 2018 and 2019. Here you will be able to soak in the beautiful hot springs and our accommodation for the night will be on-site.

We then cross Port Phillip Bay on the ferry and spend a day exploring the Surf Coast, seeing more amazing beaches, including Bells Beach, the home of the Rip Curl Pro WSL World Tour surfing competition.

Following four amazing days we will catch the ferry back to Sorrento before riding back to St Kilda for our final night together, celebrating an amazing tour. For those that are keen, we will head out early and join many of the local cyclists for another spin down Beach Road before checkout on our final morning.

Join us for this tour and experience riding through these stunning parts of Australia, with our ride guides showing you some of the most amazing roads.

Itinerary

Day 1St Kilda to Portsea

Saturday
Today’s ride : 10 am departure | 95.6km / 59.4 miles – 522m / 1,713 feet

We will greet you in St Kilda at 9am and help you put your bikes together before we depart for day 1 of the tour, a 95.6km ride down to the Mornington Peninsula. The course will take us down Beach Road, one of the most popular cycling routes in Australia, as we hug the coastline down to our lunch stop in Mornington where you’ll have views of the city across the bay.

There are a few more rolling hills after lunch, before we reach Safety Beach where the road flattens. As we ride through Dromana, Rosebud, Rye, Blairgowrie and Sorrento you will see why these areas are so popular with Melburnians during summer, with campgrounds right on the waters edge, white sandy beaches and calm waters.

A few rolling hills from Sorrento will take us to our final destination for the day, the small seaside village of Portsea. Following check-in you will have some time to relax by the pool, go for a walk along the beach or enjoy a few well earned drinks at the bar. Dinner tonight will be in the Portsea Hotel, overlooking the water.

Day 2Mornington Peninsula Loop

Sunday
Today’s ride : 9am departure | 126km / 78.3 miles – 1,043m / 3,422 feet

Today we will explore much of the Mornington Peninsula as we ride from one side of the peninsula to the other. There are some more challenging climbs ahead as we ride through the many hills in the area. The landscape is forever changing as we ride through thick forests, open paddocks, past wineries and so much more.

It would be a shame to ride past all these wineries without stopping at one for lunch. So, we’ll take some time off the bike to enjoy a beautiful lunch at a winery and taste some of their award winning wines. There will be a few climbs after lunch before we drop down to the coast again, before making our way back to Portsea.

Dinner tonight will be a short drive away in Sorrento where we will enjoy another tasty meal together.

Day 3 Portsea to Peninsula Hot Springs

Monday
Today’s ride : 8am departure | 104km / 64.9 miles – 1,221m / 4,006 feet

The day we’ve all been waiting for has arrived! We finish today’s ride at the Peninsula Hot Springs.

The start to the day will be another highlight as we ride to Point Nepean, the most westerly point of the Mornington Peninsula. Point Nepean is rich in history with evidence of Australian Aboriginal settlement of the area dating back 40,000 years. Plus, it played an important role in shaping the early settlement and defence of Australia. Gun batteries were first installed at Fort Nepean in 1886 and remained in place to defend Australia until the end of World War II. A wonderful insight into early Australia.

We will then head back along the coast with our major climb of the day getting bigger and bigger as we get closer. Arthur’s Seat is a challenging 3km climb with an average gradient of 8%, but the views from the top are absolutely worth it.

Following a hot coffee and cake at Eagle on the Hill cafe we commence our descent down to the other side of the Mornington Peninsula to Point Leo for a quick photo opportunity. More hills lay ahead as we make our way towards our final destination.

We will arrive at the Peninsula Hot Springs in time to enjoy an amazing lunch before spending the rest of the afternoon bathing in the hot springs and getting an optional massage. Now this is the way all rides should finish!

We will spend tonight in the newly opened Peninsula Hot Springs accommodation and enjoy another dinner together.

Day 4Peninsula Hot Springs to Torquay

Tuesday
Today’s ride : 8am departure | 100km / 62.1 miles – 661m / 2,169 feet

Following a wonderful few days in the Mornington Peninsula , today we catch a ferry across Port Phillip Bay to Queenscliff on the Bellarine Peninsula. We have a short ride from the hot springs down Sorrento where we’ll board the ferry for the 45min journey across the bay.

After arriving in Queenscliff we will ride towards the Surf Coast, passing through Barwon Heads, the town Cadel Evans calls home when he’s in Australia. It will quickly become apparent why they call this area the Surf Coast when you see endless white sandy beaches with huge crashing waves as we make our way down the coast.

Then it’s onto Bells Beach, the home of the Rip Curl Pro WSL World Tour surfing competition. There are a few rolling hills along the way but the views from the clifftops at Bells Beach are simply stunning! The perfect location for lunch.

The fun commences after lunch as we head inland and up a 2km climb with an average 5% gradient. The rest of the day is rolling hills through the bushland before we drop back down into Torquay, our final destination for today. There will be some hungry riders at dinner tonight.

Day 5Torquay to St Kilda

Wednesday
Today’s Ride : 8.00am departure | 144km / 89.5 miles – 1,010m / 3,314 feet

Our longest day on tour will commence with a ride back to Queenscliff where we will board the ferry for the short ride back across the bay. But we can’t pass through Queenscliff again without stopping at the famous Rolling Pin Bakery for a coffee and cake!

Some of the roads may look familiar as we begin our journey back up to St Kilda from the Mornington Peninsula, but don’t worry, we have plenty of surprises and new roads to explore along the way.

We will arrive back in St Kilda in time to freshen up and head to the bar to celebrate an amazing 5 days of riding. Following dinner you could explore Ackland Street, Fitzroy Street or even head into Crown Casino to try your luck! St Kilda is a great location to spend our final night on tour.

Day 6Check-out

Thursday

It’s time to say farewell or, for those that are keen, we can head out early with many of the local cyclists for a spin down Beach Road before checking out.

We are more than happy to help you with any further travel plans.

You’ll head home with amazing memories of your time cycling around this beautiful region.
